Fischer Charolais is a 3rd generation business started by my Dad, Butch in 1972. By adding the hybrid vigour, weaning weights increased and the price of buckskin calves was higher than the traditional Hereford calves. In 1984, we bought our first ten purebred cows from Lorne and Shirley Cripps. Over the years we added cows from Rudy and Joan Jahns of Forestburg, and Roy Switzer.
In the beginning years, we used VA Big Discovery and Peter Patriation as walking bulls in the pasture.
Since 2014, Tyler, with the help of Courtney are both involved in running the purebred operation. We are back to early calving as Tyler has taken the AI course. By bringing this to our operation, we are able to widen our bloodlines.
Since beginning the AI process, we have been using LT Ledger primarily as a heifer bull. XAL Firestruck and KAY R Velocity have been used on our cow herd.
During that time our current herd bulls have come from Steppler Charolais out of Miami, Manitoba; Rammer Charolais from Strathclair, Manitoba and HTA Charolais, out of Neepawa, Manitoba.
We currently run 350 head in our commercial operation.
We are a six generation mixed farm. We crop 5000 acres.
In the spring of 2014, we partnered with our friends, Bernie and Evelyn Cantos, to begin a honey operation. We have reached 100 hives, with hopes to expand. Bernie, along with his wife Evelyn, tend to the bees and harvest the honey.
